The dynamics of innovation

Businesses depend on their innovative power and it is precisely this dynamic that has made ROVO what it is today. This dynamic has also given the company the necessary independence required by a successful owner-operated company in the office chair industry.

1964

As with many dynamic companies, the history of ROVO CHAIR begins in a garage. Wire goods, steel frames and decorative furniture are produced.

1968

The new factory is complete. Metal vendor parts are produced for the furniture industry.

1972

The first office chair series is complete. The first patent is used to develop and produce office chairs under own our brand.

1980

ROVO turns its full attention to the development and manufacture of office chairs. Right from the beginning the focus is on ergonomics.

1982

The use of plastic makes the chairs light, stable and economical. Europe’s first self-supporting plastic base is developed.

1984

In collaboration with ergonomist and healthy living specialist Prof. Karlheinz Nier and numerous designers an ergonomic, future-proof seating concept is created. This forms the basis for many patented developments, e.g. the AIR CHAIR.

1984

The first fully-plastic swivel chair comes onto the market.

1985

BUGGY, the first chair designed especially for children and young people is today a classic. Thanks to the patented construction of the frame with its characteristic handle, the seat can be adjusted as the child grows.

1987

Three rotational axes are integrated into the seat for triple freedom of movement – the ergonomic concept of the ROVO TEC is ahead of its time. 

1990

The new company headquarters are finished. It was designed as part of an architectural competition and features well-lit offices, modern production facilities and a high-bay warehouse.

1992

The dream of being able to switch smoothly between a relaxed posture and a working posture comes true with ROVO VISION and the patented gliding-seat technology.

1996

ROVO FUN. The new program, fully up­holstered with interesting fabrics and color concepts estab­lished itself as an audience favorite from the start. The model series grows by numerous product variants with wooden or plastic back.

2000

ROVO COM is synonymous for individual seating comfort. Eight settings cover all ergonomic functions.

2002

ROVO XS is created in collaboration with Claudio Bellini. The concept wins the Architektur und Office innovation prize.

2004

ROVO XP, the broad product family for all work areas. Certified by Quality Office.

2006

ROVO XN shows delicate design combined with sophisticated comfort technology, a line of chairs with many design options.

2009

ROVO XZ, a distinctive executive chair series is developed featuring the best materials, technology and ergonomic concepts. For the first time the visco-elastic foam ROVO-PUR is used in an office chair.

2010

A new ergo-balance technology is developed with ROVO XT – posture training and dynamic sitting are combined.
